Abstract:

Primary mucinous cystadenoma of the testis is a very rare condition, with only 19 cases reported between 1958 and 2024. None of these has been reported in Africa. This paper takes a panoramic look at the aetiology, pathology, investigation and treatment options of this disease entity. A 47-year-old male presented to the surgical outpatient clinic with a painless, slowly enlarging left testicular mass of five years duration. Examination revealed a firm, non-tender mass arising from the left testis. Tumour markers were within normal limits while scrotal ultrasound demonstrated a well-circumscribed, unilobular cystic mass. He underwent a left radical orchidectomy and has remained symptom-free at 12 months of follow-up. Testicular mucinous cystadenoma, a rare benign testicular tumour can easily be missed due to being so uncommon. A high index of suspicion is thus necessary for accurate diagnosis.
